Desert valley fishhook cactus (Sclerocactus spinosior)

Description

The spherical to cylindrically growing Sclerocactus pubispinus becomes 8 to 10 cm long and 4 to 7 cm wide. It has two to five hooked central mandrels and eight to ten edge mandrels. The yellow, rarely pink, funnel- shaped flowers are 2 to 5 centimeters long and wide. In contrast, the closely related Sclerocactus spinosior flowers pink and the flowers are tubular. The flowering period is from April to the end of May.
