Description
Pereskia lychnidiflora is a species of cactus found in Central America .They are bushes or trees , which reach a size of 3-6 (10) m tall, different trunk, thorny, branches and thick twigs; areoles with 1 (2) spines 10-70 mm long, gray, occasionally with contorta bristles 10-15 mm long, white. Obovate leaves, 1.5-6.5 cm long and 1-3 cm wide, obtuse or acute apex, cuneate base; petiole 1-3 mm long. Solitary, terminal flowers, 2-4 cm long; Sepaloid parts of the perianth3-5 mm long and 3-6 mm wide, green; petaloid parts of the perianth 1-2 cm long and 0.8-1.2 cm wide, emarginated, lacy or dentate, red to orange-red when in yolk, yellow-orange in the anthesis; ovary with 10-20 foliaceous scales, elliptical to suborbicular, 4-20 mm long, style ca 1 cm long, wolves of stigma ca 8. Fruits globose, 3-4 cm long, yellow to orange; seeds 3 mm long and 2 mm thick.
