Nopal de lenguita (Nopalea auberi)
Description
Opuntia auberi is a species in the genus Opuntia ( Opuntia ) of the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the director of the Botanical Garden in Havana, Pedro Alejandro Auber e Fondniare . Opuntia auberi grows tree-shaped and reaches stature heights of 3 to 8 meters and more. The branches are at right angles to the trunk. The cylindrical trunk is uncorned and bears brownish glochids . The blue-green to gray-green, broad and massive drive sections are up to 30 inches long. The two to three spines , which sometimes may be missing, are white and have a darker tip.
