Matucana madisoniorum ( Hutchison ) GDRowley is a phanerogamous species belonging to the Cactaceae family Matucana madisoniorum grows generally solitary and rarely grouped with spherical stem flattened to widely columnar, dull and gray-green that reaches a diameter of 10 centimeters and a height of up to 15 centimeters. It has seven to twelve flat and wide ribs. The up to five spines of blackish brown color, curved, flexible and slightly inclined that can be absent, are gray with age and up to 3 centimeters long. The narrow funnel-shaped flower is orange-red 8 to 10 centimeters long and has a diameter of 4 to 5.5 centimeters. The fruits are hairy, spherical and reach a diameter of up to 2 centimeters.
