Description
Matucana haynei is a cactus plant, first described by Christoph Friedrich Otto, and became known as Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose. Matucana haynei is part of the genus Matucana and the family cactus plants. Matucana haynei is a species in the genus Matucana of the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet haynei honors the German botanist and pharmacist Friedrich Gottlob Hayne . Matucana haynei grows single or sprouting with spherical to broad cylindrical, green shoots and reaches heights of growth of up to 30 centimeters at diameters of 20 centimeters. There are 14 to 30 tattered ribs available. The variable white to light brown thorns turn gray in old age. The one to 20 medial spines are 1 to 7 inches, the 14 to 45 spines 0.8 to 4 inches long. The most oblique-hemmed flowers are crimson to salmon-colored to slightly purple. They are 4 to 9 inches long and have diameters of up to 4 inches. The spherical to club-shaped, reddish green fruits are 1 to 1.5 inches long and reach just such a diameter.
