Gymnocalycium ochoterenae (Gymnocalycium ochoterenae)
Description
Gymnocalycium ochoterenae is a species in the genus Gymnocalycium of the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the Mexican botanist Isaac Ochoterena (1885-1950). Gymnocalycium ochoterenae grows individually with olive-green to brownish, flattened spherical to hemispherical shoots and reaches stature heights of 3 to 4.5 centimeters in diameters of up to 8 centimeters. It is a rübige, branched taproot formed. The nine to 16 wide and flat ribs are rarely slightly tattered. There is a central spine , which is often missing. The three to five (rarely 1 to 7) to the plant body bent back or comb-like radiating, brownish yellow to whitish yellow spines have a darker tip and are 1 to 1.5 inches (rarely to 2.2 inches) long. The funnel-shaped, white flowers have a pale pink throat. They reach a length of 3.5 to 5.5 inches (rarely to 6.5 inches) and have a diameter of 3.5 to 5.5 inches. The green to trübroten fruits are barrel-shaped and 1.5 to 2 inches long.
