Description

Eulychnia iquiquensis has shrub growth, branching near the height of the base and the plant reaches 2-7 meters. A short, vertical trunk is formed with vigorous buds that are also occasionally branched above. It has between 12 and 15 ribs that are slightly humpbacked. The areolas are covered with short white wool from which arise from 10 to 20 spines that can not be distinguished if they are central and radial. They are erect and measure 2 to 12 cm long. The white flowers appear near the tips of the shoots and measure 5.5 to 6.5 cm long. Its pericarp and corolla tube are densely woolly. The fruits are spherical and are densely covered with white wool and have a diameter of 5-6 cm.
