Escobaria dasyacantha subs. chaffeyi (Escobaria dasyacantha chaffeyi)
Description
Escobaria dasyacantha is a species in the genus Escobaria from the family of cactus (Cactaceae). The specific epithet dasyacantha derives from the Greek words dasy for 'dense', 'rough', 'shaggy' and akantha for 'thorn'. An English trivial name is "Cob Cactus".Escobaria dasyacantha grows solitary and occasionally sprouts. The depressed spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach stature heights of up to 20 centimeters and diameter of 4 to 7 centimeters. The shoots are covered by the dense white Bedornnung. Of the warts , which are up to 10 millimeters long , the older ones are often corked and thornless at the base of the shoots. The seven to 17 strong, white middle spines have a length of 2.5 centimeters. The 25 to 50 or more marginal spines are strong, white and 0.6 to 2.5 inches long.
