Big bend foxtail cactus (Escobaria dasyacantha)
Description
Escobaria dasyacantha grows individually and occasionally sprouts. The pressed spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach heights of up to 20 centimeters and diameters of 4 to 7 centimeters. The shoots are concealed by the dense white bedding. Of the warts , which are up to 10 millimeters long , the older ones are frequently corked and thornless at the base of the shoots. The seven to seventeen strong, white middle spines have a length of 2.5 centimeters. The 25 to 50 or more edge mandrels are strong, white and 0.6 to 2.5 centimeters long. The flowers are more or less pink to brownish or occasionally also greenish. They are up to 2 centimeters long and reach diameters of 1.5 to 2 centimeters. The flowers rarely open completely due to the dense stiff condition. The red, club-shaped fruits have lengths of up to 10 millimeters.
