Scarlet cob (Echinopsis hertrichiana)
Description
Echinopsis hertrichiana grows individually or forms groups. The spherical, shiny medium to light green shoots can reach diameters of up to 10 centimeters. There are about eleven sharp ribs that are ridged transversely. On them are circular, white areoles . The single, upwardly curved central spine is straw-colored and up to 2.5 inches long. The six to eight outstretched, yellowish brown marginal spines have a length of up to 1.5 centimeters.
