Arizona pencil cholla (Cylindropuntia arbuscula)
Description
Cylindropuntia arbuscula grows shrubby or tree-shaped, is richly branched and reaches stature heights of 0.5 to 3 meters. On the green purple drowned, 6 to 10.5 inches long and 0.5 to 1.3 inches in diameter measuring instep sections are narrow indistinct cusps. The circular areoles are tan to brown woolly and wear pale yellow glochids . The up to three spines , which may be missing, are scattered along the drive sections. They are strong, usually bent down, yellow to reddish brown and turn black in old age. The thorns are 0.8 to 8 inches long. Their loose-fitting sheaths are yellowish brown
