Cacto raizon (Copiapoa megarhiza)
Description
Copiapoa megarhiza grows mostly solitary, often branched with large bulbous taproots. The depressed spherical to spherical shoots are gray-green. They are heavily thorned and measure five to ten inches in diameter. The 10 to 21 ribs are hinted at. The areoles are separated from each other. The peachy or needle-like thorns are straight or slightly bent. They are yellow to black, graying in old age. One to six central spines of 1.5 to 4 centimeters in length and eight to 10 spines are distinguished with 0.5 to 2.5 centimeters in length.The yellow flowers are 2.5 to 4 inches long. The fruits are green with little scales and measure one centimeter in diameter.
