Description
“Pet poisonous” – Toxic parts: entire plant Ornithogalum sardienii is a plant of the genus ornithogalum in the family of asparagaceae (Asparagaceae). Thespecific epithet sardienii honors Tommy Sardien (* 1932), who was long curator for South African succulents at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden . Ornithogalum sardienii is dwarf and grows with single or cluster-forming, above-ground, spherical bulbs with a length of 8 to 20 millimeters and a diameter of 5 to 18 millimeters. The greyish white, succulent onion scales are slightly translucent. The fibrous roots are stalk-round. The evergreen, ascending to upright spread, 20 to 50 leaves form a dense basal rosette . Their linear-lanceolate, green leaf bladeis 15 to 25 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide at the base. On it are up to six rows of white, translucent, protruding eyelashes. The leaf blade is keeled and triangular in cross-section. The upper side of the leaf is flat, the leaf margin ciliate. The underside of the leaf is convex in its lower part. The leaf tip carries a yellowish green Spitzchen.
