Georgia Beargrass (Nolina georgiana)
Description
Nolina georgiana grows trunkless , is rhizomatous and forms clumps of 1 to 2 m in diameter. The variable grass-like, green foliage leaves are 70 to 150 cm long and 4 to 10 mm wide. The blade edges are perforated.The inflorescence is 1 to 1.5 m high and is branched several times. The yellow, green to tan flowers are 1.9 to 2.5 mm long and broad. The flowering period is in April.The ripe egg-shaped to round woody capsule fruits are 7 to 10 mm in diameter. The brown spherical seeds are 2 to 4 mm in diameter. 5 to 8 mm wide and 1 mm thick. Seed maturity is in June.Nolina georgiana is to minus 10 - C frost-hardy . It is hardly known.
