Description
Geonoma macrostachys is an evergreen palm growing from 0.3 - 3.5 metre tall. The plant usually produces a single subterranean or shortly erect stem - occasionally there is a small cluster of stems; the stems can be 11 - 28mm in diameter; each is topped by a crown of 3 - 15 leaves 0.2 - 3 metres long.The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use as a source of thatch.
