Description
Geonoma deversa (Jatata) is a species belonging to the family of Arecaceae . It is native to central and southern tropical America where it is distributed throughout Belize , Costa Rica, Honduras , Nicaragua , Panama , French Guiana , Guyana , Suriname , Venezuela , Colombia , Ecuador , Peru , Bolivia and Brazil . It is one of the most widely distributed palms in the Neotropics, it is found from Central America to northern South America, including the entire Amazon basin. It is a shrubby tree with several trifoliate stems and leaves. It forms groups of numerous individuals in the understory.
