Cabbage palm (Corypha utan)
Description
Corypha utan, known commonly as the Gebang palm or cabbage palm, is a species of palm. It is distributed from the Assam region of India through Indochina, Malaysia, and Indonesia to the Philippines and New Guinea, and south to Australia's Cape York Peninsula.It grows up to 20 meters tall and bears fronds 4 to 6 meters long. Like other palms of genus Corypha, this species flowers at the end of its lifetime, producing a massive inflorescence up to 5 meters tall containing up to one million flowers.Growing along watercourses, floodplains and grasslands, the Palm and Cycad Socieites of Australia write about the Corypha utan palms occurring in Cape York
