Spiny and handsome palm from South America which produces seeds as hard as stones which are not at all easy to germinate. Once sprouted though, growth is fast and satisfying. Not endangered palm, the most notable characteristic is the large black spines on the trunk that are lost as the plant ages. These also present on the petioles and rachis.
