Japanese Winterberry (Ilex serrata)
Description
“Pet poisonous” – Toxic parts: berries Ilex serrata is a species in the Ilex (holly) genus and the Aquifoliaceae family. It is an evergreen shrub or small tree up to about 4.5 m high. In Japan where it naturally occurs, it is a hardy species with ovate dark green leaves, pink flowers and red berries on the female plant. Ilex or holly, is a genus of 400 to 600 species of flowering plants in the family Aquifoliaceae, and the only living genus in that family. The species are evergreen or deciduous trees, shrubs, and climbers from tropics to temperate zones worldwide.
