Wax plant (Hoya diptera)

Description

Hoya diptera is a species of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) from the subfamily of the seedweed family (Asclepiadoideae). Hoya diptera is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows climbing and epiphytic . The bare or only slightly hairy shoot axes are only about 3 mm thick. The leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The wrinkled petiole is 5 to 15 mm long. The slightly fleshy, succulent leaf blade is at a length of 3.5 to 8 centimeters and a width of 1 to 3.2 centimeters ovate-elliptic to narrow-lanceolate with a blunt rounded Spreitenbasis and long pulled-out tip. The leaf surface is very shiny, older leaves occasionally have individual silver speckles. The first description of Hoya diptera was made in 1861 by Berthold Seemann in the Flora vitiensis. Hoffmann et al. give the ninth volume of the Bonplandia (p. 257) as a first publication ; however, only the name without description and illustration appears in it.
