Description
The silver-throated calacatre ( Eryngium spinalba Vill. 1779 ) is a herbaceous plant of the Apiaceae family endemic to the Maritime Alps It is a perennial bushy, scaposa hemicriptophyte plant with scarcely branching stems The leaves are coriaceous and thorny, the basalis deeply divided. The bracts from 15 to 30 per plant, are greenish from 6 to 9 cm long. The flowers are gathered in purple umbrellas ; the peripheral ones are unisexual or sterile, the central hermaphrodite ones
