Description
Eryngium dilatatum is a phanerogamous species of Eryngium belonging to the apiaceae family . It is an evergreen herbaceous , often bluish, with thick root. Stems of 10-40 cm, erect, simple, rarely branched. Leaves slightly leathery; the basal ones of 2-13 cm, persistent, with spatulate limb, 3-secto in the distal part and widely attenuated and pinnatifid until the pod; broad pod, with long and very thin spines; the caulinares 3-partidas, with strong spines. Inflorescence little branched, racemose, with 12-20 subglobose strands, each with 6-9 bracts; the center of (1-) 2-5 cm, long pedunculated; the sides frequently subsumed; bracts (20-) 26-40 x 3-6 mm, from lanceolate to linear-lanceolate, with (4-5-) 6-9 pairs of spines; bracteolas of 7-16 mm, whole. Sépalos de c. 2.5 mm, ovate-lanceolate, long awned. Fruit with scales on the ribs, usually ovate-lanceolate, flat, more dense and spiny on the apical part. It has a chromosome number of 2n = 16. It flowers from June to August (September).
