Small hare's ear (Bupleurum praealtum)
Description
B. praealtum is an annual plant, glabrous, with erect stems more or less branched, from 40 cm to 1 m or more; the leaves all similar, linear-lanceolate, acute, 2-15 by 0.2-1 cm, basal wilted in bloom; the umbels with 1-3 linear bracts erect-patenes and with 1-4 very unequal rays, of 0.5-3 cm; umbels with 3-6 bracts and 1-4 flowers with yellow petals ; the oblong fruits of 4-7 mm, with filiform ribs and on pedicels of 1-3.5 mm. It is very similar to Bupleurum gerardii from which it is separated by larger fruits and, sometimes, by larger size, wider leaves with well-marked central nerve, few radii in the inflorescence and bractéolas that do not exceed the fruits.
