Custard apple (Annona mucosa)
Description
The tree is small in size and reaches a maximum of 10 m. The branches already depart from the base and widen in a remarkable way from the trunk. The leaves are alternate and about 20 cm long. The hermaphrodite flowers are pale green, solitary or in pairs, and have from 3 to 6 petals. The fruit is large in size (from 300 grams to 2000 grams) and has the shape of a heart. The peel is yellow and is characterized by areolas estroflesse with sharp apex that blackens the touch, each of which corresponds to a seed (the fruit is in fact a sincarpo ). The flesh is milky white instead of color, gelatinous consistency and has a very sweet taste and pleasant aroma: reminiscent of a lemon sorbet. The wood is of good quality, traditionally with the wooden boats are built; the typical traditional Brazilian musical instrument, the berimbau , (which derives its name from the plant) is constructed with its wood.
