Aizoon collinum (Aizoon collinum)
Description
Galenia is a genus of low growing perennial herbs in the family Aizoaceae. The genus is endemic to southern Africa. Galenia grows as a shrub or perennial plant . Their internodes are papillose or bald. The leaves are opposite or alternate, lanceolate to acicular. Its epidermis is more or less bright initially and later it turns white. The flowers are more or sessile on peaks. It is an annual or biennial herb. It has stems up to 70 cm high, prostrate, papillose, with appressed hairs and scales up to 2 mm, fusiform and fixed at its midpoint. Leaves up to 18 x 9 mm, lobed-spatulate, acute, alternate or grouped in the armpit of the branches, carnosites, with hairs and scales similar to those of the stems. Bracted flowers. Tepals up to 3 mm, oblong-lanceolate, with membranous margins and medium hairy dorsal area, pale yellow or greenish color. Persistent capsule, included in the peri-tube and at the base of the bract.
